Terms of Service.

EFFECTIVE MARCH 12, 2026

These terms govern your use of the webclaw API, CLI tools, self-hosted software, and related services operated by webclaw ("we", "us", "our").

01

Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using webclaw's services — including the REST API, command-line interface (CLI), MCP server, or any hosted instance — you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service.

If you are using webclaw on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have the authority to bind that organization to these terms.

If you do not agree, do not use the service. The self-hosted open-source version (MIT license) is governed by its own license terms, not these Terms of Service, except where you connect to our hosted API or infrastructure.

02

Service Description

webclaw provides web content extraction services that convert web pages into structured formats including markdown, plain text, JSON, and LLM-optimized output. The service operates via:

  • — Hosted REST API at api.webclaw.io
  • — Command-line interface (webclaw CLI)
  • — MCP server for AI agent integration
  • — Self-hosted deployment (open-source, MIT licensed)

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time with reasonable notice.

03

Accounts & API Keys

To use the hosted API, you must register for an account and obtain an API key. You are responsible for:

  • — Maintaining the confidentiality of your API key
  • — All activity that occurs under your account
  • — Notifying us immediately of any unauthorized use

Do not share, publish, or embed API keys in client-side code, public repositories, or any publicly accessible location. We may revoke keys that are found to be exposed.

04

Acceptable Use

You may use webclaw to:

  • — Extract content from publicly accessible web pages
  • — Build applications, tools, and integrations using our API
  • — Process content for analysis, indexing, or LLM pipelines
  • — Self-host the open-source software on your infrastructure

You are solely responsible for ensuring that your use of extracted content complies with applicable laws, the source website's terms of service, and any relevant intellectual property rights.

05

Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to use webclaw to:

  • — Scrape content in violation of applicable law (including CFAA, GDPR, or equivalent)
  • — Extract personal data for profiling, surveillance, or purposes not permitted by data protection laws
  • — Circumvent technical access controls, CAPTCHAs, or authentication mechanisms for unauthorized access
  • — Conduct denial-of-service attacks against target websites or our infrastructure
  • — Resell or redistribute raw API access without authorization
  • — Use the service to generate spam, phishing content, or malicious payloads
  • — Violate the intellectual property rights of third parties

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that engage in prohibited conduct without prior notice.

06

Rate Limits & Fair Use

Each plan includes specific rate limits and page quotas. Exceeding your plan's limits may result in throttled requests or temporary suspension.

We implement fair use policies to maintain service quality for all users. Sustained high-volume usage that degrades service for others may be subject to additional rate limiting, regardless of plan tier.

For high-volume or specialized needs, contact us about dedicated infrastructure plans.

07

Intellectual Property

webclaw's core extraction engine, API, and related software are released under the MIT License. The MIT license applies to the source code — not to the hosted service, trademarks, or proprietary infrastructure.

Content extracted through webclaw belongs to its original rights holders. We do not claim ownership of any content processed through our service.

You retain all rights to any applications, tools, or derivative works you build using our API or open-source software.

08

Data Processing

When you use the hosted API, we process web page content transiently to generate extraction results. We do not persistently store the content of pages you extract, except:

  • — Temporary caching for performance (max 1 hour)
  • — Request metadata for usage tracking and billing
  • — Error logs for debugging (auto-purged after 30 days)

For details on how we handle your personal information, see our Privacy Policy.

09

Payment & Billing

Paid plans are billed monthly or annually in advance. All fees are non-refundable except where required by law.

  • — Unused page credits do not roll over between billing periods
  • — Plan changes take effect at the next billing cycle
  • — We may change pricing with 30 days' notice
  • — Failed payments may result in service downgrade or suspension

The free tier is provided as-is with no uptime guarantees or SLA.

10

Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not guarantee that extraction results will be accurate, complete, or suitable for any particular purpose. Web pages change frequently, and extraction quality depends on the structure and content of the target page.

11

Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WEBCLAW SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUE, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY.

Our total aggregate liability for any claims arising from or relating to these terms or the service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

12

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless webclaw, its officers, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the service, your violation of these terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.

13

Termination

Either party may terminate this agreement at any time. You may stop using the service and delete your account. We may suspend or terminate your access for violation of these terms.

Upon termination, your API keys will be revoked. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including limitation of liability, indemnification, and intellectual property) will survive.

14

Changes to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or through the service dashboard at least 30 days before they take effect.

Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

15

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Any disputes arising from these terms shall be resolved through binding arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Association, with proceedings conducted in English.
